RT 2005 (thermal standard)

The RT 2005 (thermal regulation 2005) is a standard that must be applied to all new buildings for which a building permit has been submitted from 1 September 2006 (Journal Officiel 25 May 2006, Decree No. 2006-592 of 2 May 2006 and Order 24 May 2006).The RT 2005 (thermal regulation 2005) is a standard that must be applied to all new buildings for which a building permit has been submitted as of 1 September 2006 (Official Journal of 25 May 2006, Decree No. 2006-592 of 2 May 2006 and Order of 24 May 2006).

Its aim is to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from residential and non-residential buildings (tertiary, industrial buildings, etc.).

The RT 2005 encourages :

- the bioclimatic design of buildings;
- the reinforcement of the requirements on the building (thermal bridges, etc.);
- the consideration of consumption (for example, it imposes a maximum energy consumption "cep max" taking into account the climatic zones and the type of heating)
- the use of renewable energy (RE);
- the performance of equipment (it leads to the democratisation of systems such as hygro or double flow ventilation, or heat pumps);
- better readability of energy performance (it now displays primary energy consumption per m² of floor area).
